Czech Republic 2021 Benny Cristo

Czech TV confirms Benny Cristo as their 2021 Eurovision act.

The singer gets another chance to represent the Czech Republic at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.

This week, the whole of Europe should have come together in Rotterdam, where the 65th Eurovision Song Contest should have been held. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the contest was forced to be cancelled by its organisers for the first time in its history.

This hasn’t stopped countries from planning for next year already however. Today, Česká televize, confirmed Benny Cristo is returning to represent them in 2021.

Eurovision Czech Republic 2021

Benny won this year’s National Selection, but unfortunately he didn’t get the opportunity to present his act on the big eurovision stage, so we decided to ask him as our representative for next year. However, we would like to let fans and viewers take part into what song should represent us in 2021...” explains Czech Television manager Lucie Kapounová. More details on how the public will get the chance to be involved is to be released in due course.

Open to a 2021 return

Earlier this week, Benny Cristo, real name Ben da Silva Cristóvão, had already suggested he’d be open to the opportunity of coming back in 2021 in his Eurovision interview with the Dutch make up vlogger and 2020 Eurovision green room host NikkieTutorials. You can watch the full interview below:

So what can we expect for next year? “If you get to come back will your song be different genre wise?” asks NikkieTutorials in the clip above “If I get re-elected number one rule is that Kemama can not be re-used. In that case, I have three different ideas. I would produce three different songs, all to standards I’m fully happy with, and then I would let the people choose.”

Since the cancellation of the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, the EBU has announced, broadcasters can choose the same act, however they will need to find a new song for next year’s competition. Benny’s 2020 entry, Kemama, will therefore not be eligible, for 2021.

So far 14 acts have been confirmed by their broadcasters to grace the Eurovision stage in 2021.
